Penobscot Eye Care is staffed with experienced eyecare professionals capable of delivering the highest level of service available. We pride ourselves in our family oriented atmosphere and look forward to creating long lasting relationships with each of our patients. Penobscot Eye Care's OptometristsJeffrey E. Sawyer OD ![]() Jeffrey Sawyer received his doctor of optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in Boston in May 1981 after graduating from the University of Maine, Orono in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology. After graduation, Dr. Sawyer served as an Optometry Officer in the U.S. Army with assignments in Texas, Oklahoma, North Carolina and Germany. He returned home to Bangor, forming Penobscot Eye Care with Dr. Marquez in September 1988. Dr. Sawyer remained in the U.S. Army Reserves assigned to the 1125th US Army Hospital and was called back to active Duty in 1991 for the first Gulf War, serving at Fort Lee, VA. In 1993 he transferred into the Maine Air National Guard, 101st Air Refueling Wing. He was promoted to Colonel in July 2001 and served as Medical Group Commander until his retirement from the Air National Guard in October 2007. Kimberly D. Allen OD ![]() Dr. Allen is our newest Associate. She joined our practice in November of 2006. Dr. Allen received her doctor of optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in 2003 after graduating from Pittsburg State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry. She then completed a residency in Ocular Disease with Kittery Ophthalmic Consultants in Kittery, ME. Dr. Allen has advanced therapeutic glaucoma authority through the State of Maine Board of Optometry. She is a member of the International Optometric Honor Society, Beta Sigma Kappa, the Maine Optometric Association, and the American Optometric Association. Kathryn O. Ward OD ![]() Dr. Kathryn Ward grew up in Orono and received her Bachelor's Degree at the University of Maine. She attended graduate school at the University of California at Berkeley, earning her Doctorate in Optometry in 1991. She returned to Maine to join Penobscot Eye Care later that same year. Dr. Ward has advanced therapeutic glaucoma authority through the State of Maine Board of Optometry. She is a member of the International Optometric Honor Society, Beta Sigma Kappa, the Maine Optometric Association, and the American Optometric Association. Penobscot Eye Care's Professional StaffDale Graham: ABOC, FNAO ![]() Dale is our Practice Administrator. He joined us in 1996 as an optician and later took over managing the practice. He has nearly 30 years of experience in all phases of the optical industry. His focus is providing our patients with a caring and professional atmosphere at each encounter thus creating a loyal patient base. Tina Nelson: ABOC, CPOA, CMRS, FNAO ![]() Tina is currently our front desk co-coordinator and contact lens technician. She has been with us for over 11 years serving in various positions throughout the practice. Tina prides herself in her continued effort to achieve certifications at all levels of eyecare. Lisa Tasker, Medical Assistant, CPOA ![]() Lisa is Dr. Ward’s technician and has been employed by Penobscot Eye Care for nearly ten years. One of Lisa’s strengths is the ability to deliver personalized care to our patients by making them feel like one of the family. Stacey Kelley: Optician ![]() Stacey was originally hired for our Bucksport location in 2000. She served as a manager in that position until we sold the practice in 2006. She then joined our Bangor location where she has since been serving the role of dispensing optician. Patty Gilbert: CPO ![]() Patty has been with us since 2004 serving as our diagnostic technician. She administers the visual fields, fundus photography, retinal tomography, and also provides our patients with contact lens instruction. Claudia Teifert: COA ![]() Claudia is Dr. Sawyer’s technician. She is one of our certified ophthalmic assistants receiving her certification from JCAHPO. She originally joined our practice in 2004 but left for a brief period when her family was relocated to Texas. They made the decision to return to Maine in early 2009 and we are very pleased to have her join our team once again. Heather Richardson: ABOC ![]() Heather is one of our certified opticians and has been on staff since 2004. She is capable of performing all aspects of eyecare procedures ranging from fabricating lenses to diagnostic testing. She actually grew up in the optical industry as both her of parents are opticians. Rhonda Hadley: Billing Specialist ![]() Rhonda joined Penobscot Eye Care in 2005 after working the previous seven years in the medical billing field. She is responsible for all aspects of insurance and patient billing and fully capable of addressing the complex issues of individual insurance plans. Jill Trudel: COA, MA, CLT, ST ![]() Jill is another of our certified ophthalmic assistants that received her certification from JCAHPO. She has been Dr. Marquez and Dr. Allen’s technician for the past 4 years. She has been in the eye health field since 1998 when she worked for an ophthalmologist in Arizona. Matt Cravin: ABOC ![]() Matt is another of our certified opticians. He came to us in 2006 after working at Pearl Vision for the previous five years. He helps patients choose eyewear based on their lifestyle by instructing them on the most modern and advanced lens and frame materials available. Lana Gulesian: Front desk receptionist / Optician ![]() Lana has nearly thirty years as an eyecare professional. She originally joined Penobscot Eye Care in 1997. Lana is the first face you see upon entering our facility and will greet you with a welcome and caring smile. |
